John 20:31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Everyone saw that Jesus was crucified on the cross. They saw he was buried in a tomb. They saw a large rock was rolled in front of this grave. They knew about the guards stationed to secure the tomb. Now three days later, Sunday morning Mary Magdalene got up early and go to the tomb, finding the large stone had been removed. Mary quickly runs back and tells Peter and John that they moved the body. Peter and John quickly run to the to the tomb. John arrives at the tomb 1st, peers in but is reluctant to go inside. Peter, typical Peter goes inside without hesitation to find the body gone but the grave clothes neatly folded and laid on the shelf where the body was. Then we are told
John 20:8 Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed— 9 for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead.
Then John believed. John had recalled what Jesus told them.
Luke 24:46 … that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,
Mary goes back to the grave site and had the extraordinary opportunity to talk with Jesus. Mary recognize Jesus, Mary believes.
That very evening the Disciples are held up in an a room, door locked for fear of retaliation of the Jewish leaders. To their surprise, Jesus makes himself know to them and shows them his hands and side.
The Disciples believe. Thomas is absent and will not believe until he too can see with his own eyes and put his had on the scars on his hands and side. One week later Jesus appears to Thomas and has Thomas place his hands on the scars of his hands and side. Thomas Believes.
The Disciples Believed.
They believed, Jesus was raised from the dead. Death did not have power over Jesus. Death could not hold him in the grave. He was alive. He was risen from the Grave. Hallelujah - God be praised.
