King David had sinned. He sent one of soldiers, Uriah to battle and has him placed in a very dangerous part of the battle so that he would be killed and then enabling David to marry Bathsheba, this mans wife.
Bathsheba gave birth to a child, but this child soon died due to an illness that had stricken the child. Then we read:
2 Sam. 12:24 Then David comforted Bathsheba, his wife, and slept with her. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son, and David named him Solomon. The Lord loved the child 25 and sent word through Nathan the prophet that they should name him Jedidiah (which means “beloved of the Lord”), as the Lord had commanded.
The Lord God instructed Nathan that this Child was to be called, Jedidiah, meaning “Loved by God”. God wanted David and Bathsheba know that no matter what sin was committed, God forgives. God wanted them to know every single day when they looked upon this child, that God loved this child and this Child was to a testimony to everyone that God forgives sin.
God wants you and I to know that God Loves us and that God forgives our sin, forgives those horrible things we have done, only because of His grace. God has a future and hope for us. Paul talks about this in his letter to the Ephesians.
Eph. 3:17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Solomon means “Peace” & God changed Solomon’s name to Jedidiah “Loved by God”
