Rom. 12:1, 2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
God’s mercies are everything He has given us that we don’t deserve, God’s love, forgiveness, wisdom, reconciliation, justification, eternal life. Our natural response to God’s mercies is Worship, a desire give thanks to God, to praise Him for His gift of mercies to us. Worship that is acceptable to God is one of self-sacrifice, giving ourselves to God as a living sacrifice seeking to live life holy unto God. This can only be done by the renewing our minds with God word.
Is. 55:8,9 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
To discard the ways of the world, the beliefs of those who do know God and replace them with the truth of God, saturating our minds with God’s thoughts, God’s words. John Piper states it this way.
“True worship is a valuing or a treasuring of God above all things”
A Church service is not just for people to come to church to sing. A Church service does provide each individual an opportunity to “value, to treasure God above all things” in their lives. A Church service allows people to come together as one body singing praises to God, growing in their knowledge of God. A Church service is then a reflection of the people of God seeking to value God more then anything else in their life. It is truly a spiritual experience. As the Gospel of John states: God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24
